Promotions is the discount engine: promo codes that fill quiet hours, and gift cards that sell your business as a present — both redeemed against bookings and the shop, both settled in your own Square account.
Find it: Catalog → Promotions.
Column 2 — At a glance
The numbers: active codes, cards sold, value redeemed and outstanding — so you can see what your promotions are actually doing before you add another.
Column 3 — codes and cards
Two halves, one page:
Promo codes
Create a code with a value (percent or amount) and real limits — how many times it can be used, and what it applies to. Fine print is explicit: Don't discount add-ons keeps the discount off your add-on revenue, and Discount shipping too is a deliberate choice rather than an accident.
Gift cards
Switch on Selling gift cards and your site gets a gift card page where cards are bought online and delivered by email — Email the card sends it straight to the recipient. Allow custom amounts lets buyers pick their own value alongside your presets.
Column 4 — How it works
The rules of the machine, stated plainly: discounts and gift card value are applied before Square, always — the customer's card is charged the discounted total, every code has one validator so a code can never be double-spent, and every sale and redemption lands as a row in your Transactions ledger.
Common jobs
- Fill Wednesdays: a 20% code limited in uses, shared on social — aimed at the pale cells in your Insights heatmap.
- Christmas: turn on gift cards in November. They're bought as gifts, redeemed in your slow season, and the cash arrives the day they're bought.
- Check a card's balance: every card's sales and redemptions are on this page and in the ledger — reconciling takes one look, not a drawer of paper vouchers.
