Transactions is the journal of every dollar that moved — one row per payment or refund, written once and never edited. When you or your accountant asks "what exactly happened with this payment?", this page is the answer.

Column 3 — the ledger
"What lands here": every card payment, every cash amount marked at the desk, every refund — appended in order, never rewritten. Open any row and the money is broken out to the cent:
- Collected — what the customer paid.
- Sales tax — the tax portion, separated.
- Square processing — Square's posted fee on the charge.
- Net profit — what the sale actually made you, after tax and fees.
A payment the system is still confirming shows as not posted yet.
If a payment is missing
It heals itself: on a regular sweep the ledger asks Square directly about anything it hasn't heard of and settles the record. A webhook lost in transit becomes a row a little later — never a payment that vanished.
Column 4 — About this ledger
The rules of the journal, stated where you read it: append-only, one row per movement, reconciled against Square.
Common jobs
- "Did they pay?" — search the customer or booking; the row is the truth, including cash marked at the desk.
- Month-end books: the tax and fee columns are already separated — your accountant reads this instead of reconstructing it.
- Chargeback or dispute? The dispute lives on the booking it hit; the ledger rows around it show the full money story.
